Expanding Opportunity Across Ethiopia

Facility Optimization, School Library Construction & Clean Water

The Distant Relatives Project is a 501(c)3 organization that is committed to the development of underserved communities around the world with a focus in Africa. Our organization has 3 core pillars of concentration including: education, homelessness, and healthcare. With a vision of carrying out our services in Ethiopia, we connected with Felege Elders Development Association located in Kebele 11 also know as Amede, a nursery home and shelter for the elderly and their immediate family members

Empowering over 2,500 students to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our commitments for 2025 include constructing a new school-based library to support literacy, independent learning, and access to quality educational materials; supporting classroom expansion to reduce overcrowding; repairing the broken water pipe and restoring access to clean, running water across the campus; and improving the school’s overall infrastructure to create a safe, dignified, and functional environment for students and teachers.

Felege Elderly Development Center – Facility Optimization & Essential Supply Distribution

Our work in Ethiopia began in 2019 at the Felege Elderly Development Center in Nazareth (Adama). Distant Relatives Project completed a facility optimization project to improve living conditions for underserved elderly community members.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we also provided thousands of medical, cleaning, and school supplies, addressing shortages that threatened the health and safety of residents and caregivers.
This project marked the beginning of our long-term commitment to supporting vulnerable populations throughout Ethiopia.

2020 | COVID Relief

PPE Production & Distribution During COVID-19
In 2020, as Ethiopia faced the global COVID-19 crisis, Distant Relatives Project partnered with Tibeb Leather to manufacture and donate 5,000 pieces of PPE, including medical face shields and biohazard suits.
These supplies were delivered to hospitals and clinics across the country, ensuring that under-resourced healthcare professionals were protected while serving on the front lines of the pandemic.
This initiative reduced transmission risk, strengthened public health efforts, and supported those who cared for the most vulnerable during a critical moment in history.
