OUR HEALTHCARE DIVISIONS

The Distant Relatives Project’s Healthcare team comprises four committees united in the mission to enhance healthcare accessibility in remote communities and promote health equity in marginalized areas. Each committee targets specific healthcare deficiencies to improve the health outcomes of individuals in underserved communities

Community Wellness Committee

Focuses on establishing partnerships with health professional groups and mobile clinics to provide comprehensive care during health fairs.

Public Health and Policy Committee

Focuses on advocacy, education, and grant-writing to identify and address public health crisis affecting the underserved communities in which we serve.

Health Administration Committee

Focuses on case management and medication access indicatives to identify and reduce challenges that underserved patients face when seeking healthcare

Mental Health Committee

Focuses on education, advocacy, and partnerships to break down barriers and eliminate stigmas associated with mental illness.

 

GLOBAL HEALTH FAIRS

The DRP healthcare team organizes and conducts a monthly health fair in Washington D.C., specifically tailored to assist individuals experiencing homelessness. This program is also open to community members without health insurance or means of transportation to medical facilities. Additionally, we host two international health fairs in remote African communities with limited medical infrastructure. These events often coincide with our Feeding Our Relatives programs, ensuring holistic support from each of our core pillars. Our health fairs offer a range of comprehensive health services, including but not limited to:

Our monthly outreach efforts concentrate on tackling health-related issues that are pertinent and timely for the populations we serve. Our initiatives align with national or international health campaigns established by the global health community. Additionally, our campaigns are influenced by ongoing global pandemics.
